Who We Are‎ > ‎

Jason Bloomberg M.D.

Joined the CIC in 2008 as the representative of Mt. Sinai Synagogue after there had been a gap in representation from the synagogue for several years.  In 2009 was elected to the office of Co-Secretary with Mohamed Salih from the Islamic Center of Cheyenne in 2009. Dr. Bloomberg stepped down from being the primary representative of Mt. Sinai Synagogue in May 2010.  Jeff Weinstein has replaced him in that role.  Dr. Bloomberg continues to support the CIC and continues as its webmaster for this website.

In addition to serving Mt. Sinai Synagogue as a reserve representative to the CIC Dr. Bloomberg also serves Mt. Sinai Synagogue  in the following capacities:

Member of Mt. Sinai Synagogue Ritual and Liturgy Committee (Chair from 2007 - 2009)
Lay Leader - Cantorial Soloist,
Wyoming's only mohel,
Ba'al Tikiah,
member of the Mt. Sinai Men's Chevra Kadisha
member of Kavod V'Nichum
He also serves on the Board and was Vice President of  CIHN - Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network. In August 2010 that organization changed its name to Family Promise Cheyenne: an Interfaith Hospitality Network.  That same month he became their President.  That oranization is an interfaith response which shelters homeless children and their families.  Many faith communities from the Cheyenne Interfaith Council are active with Family Promise Cheyenne.

Dr. Bloomberg  also maintains memberships with the Laramie Jewish Community Center in Laramie, WY and Synagogue of the Hills in Rapid City, SD.

Prior to moving to Cheyenne in 2001, Dr. Bloomberg served Synagogue of the Hills in Rapid City, SD for 16 years at varying time as:

Member of the Synagogue of the Hills Ritual and Liturgy Committee,
Lay Leader - Cantorial Soloist,
Assistant Ba'al Tikiah

He also served as the Jewish Chaplain for the South Dakota Fire Fighters' Association

In the 1980's he also has served at a "Lay Minister"*  through the B'nai Or (now P'nai Or) Religious Fellowship under the auspices of Rabbi Zalman Schacter - Shalomi to provide pastoral services to Jewish inmates and hospital patients.

* "Lay Minister" was specific language required under the secular laws at that time in order to have a person who was not ordained provide pastoral services.  It is a term not usually associated with Jewish traditions, customs, or laws.

Dr. Bloomberg is a Board Certified Family Physician.  His local medical practice is Access Health Care - LLC.  Dr. Bloomberg also provided services to former patients of the Cheyenne Community [Free] Clinic through his practice with the Cheyenne Interim Free Clinic Project.

Dr. Bloomberg desires to express gratitude to Rabbi Arinna Shelby who served at Mt. Sinai Synagogue's rabbi until the end of January 2010.   She demonstrated tremendous leadership in the area of improving Interfaith relations exemplifying what this organization aspires to achieve.
